Copenhagen Climate Conference Kicks Off

Delegates arrived for the Copenhagen Climate Conference yesterday, but the talks began this morning unfortunately still under a cloud of suspicion due to the so called 'climate gate' emails which were hacked from East Anglia University in the UK.  The conference lasts about two weeks and there is certainly a lot of work to do if delegates intend to come away with a new agreement to replace the formerly ratified Kyoto Protocol that many nations signed on to, but like Canada, neglected to implement any legislative changes to meet the targets of Kyoto.

Despite the fact that no real conspiracy among scientists exist, except perhaps poor judgment in the case of the East Anglia hacking incident, climate change deniers have been able to hijack the message intended for the conference so it remains to be seen what kind of agreement can be reached now that certain countries like Saudi Arabia are sceptical of making any changes to their oil based economy.  Add to that a  country like Canada and its tar sands, who's Prime Minister Stephen Harper only decided to make the trip to the conference because American President Barrack Obama announced his willingness to attend, and its easy to see that climate change does not take precedence over jobs or the pseudo science of climate change deniers.

We'll bring you more as we get the information.
