Senate Votes Down Abortion Amendment
The highly anticipated vote on an amendment proposed by Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) and almost identical to the Stupak amendment passed in the House, was tabled by a vote of 54-45. This means that when both the House and Senate bills are reconciled, there will be no language prohibiting private insurers offering abortion insurance to women under the newly proposed exchanges in a public option.
