Tiger Woods Breaks Silence, And Why I Don't Care
So one of the most anticipated "press conferences" in a while just ended, with pro golfer Tiger Woods apologizing for cheating on his wife and wrecking his image with advertisers. I thought it was a good 14 minute speech, even if it sounded like someone else wrote parts of it.
Of note, I thought his mother looked incredibly upset while the rest of the crowd sort of looked like props, but despite my criticisms I don't think he owes anyone any explanation other than his family and friends.
The build up to the statement was absurd on the various news channels, with panels of talking heads arguing over what he may, or may not say. Blah, blah, blah.
The thing about all of this is, is that I feel like I've seen all of this before. A endless parade of celebrities, politicians, public servants, artists, priests, doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc., etc., have all come before this, and apologized for whatever they happened to get caught doing. Why do we still care?
Why is it that, we haven't figured out that people in general do these kinds of things all the time? Oh yeah, I forgot. It's all about image. Watching the news surrounding each infidelity scandal took away precious moments of my life, and I want them back.
Anyway, watch the apology below:
