GDP In Positive Territory
Statistics Canada has released the latest Gross Domestic Product numbers for the Canada, and the GDP has increased 1.2% in the fourth quarter. This is a huge difference from the first quarter of 2009, when the GDP was was in negative territory at around -1.5%.
The majority of the major indices rose in the fourth quarter of 2009, including consumer spending by 0.9% led by durable goods purchases like furniture and appliances, housing demand increased 6.5% which as led by new house construction, and exports have risen 3.7%.
Of those indicies which fell during the fourth quarter, imports dropped 2.2%, inventories dropped to the equivalent of 68 days of sales from 70 in the third quarter, and business investment in plants and equipment fell -2.3%.
