Obama Hosts Penn. Health Reform Rally

President Obama spoke exclusively about health-care for the first time in six months today in Pennsylvania.  From the look of the setup, it was clear that this was more of a rally than a town hall, as the President continued the final push for passing health-care reform by Easter.

He began by acknowledging the recent troubles Democrats have had, as well as the poor poll numbers on comprehensive reform legislation, but went on the offensive against insurance rate increases which have dominated the news cycle in recent weeks.  The President used the insurance industry's own record, and in some cases words, to illustrate the dire need to pass health-care this year.

Much of the speech was similar to what he has been saying for a few weeks, he painted a picture of one side supporting more regulation, consumer protections, and greater competition, while the other side was for the status quo.  He specifically highlighted popular portions of the bill like an end to pre-existing conditions, children being covered under their parents plan until age 26, and access to the same choices as your members of Congress.  He once again explained the new health exchanges which will be formed, allowing individuals and small businesses to join a larger insurance pool to help lower overall premiums.

Overall, it was a call not to kick the proverbial can down the road, and urged Americans to urge Congress to govern, and not worry about getting re-elected.
