Secretary Of State Clinton Criticizes Arctic Meeting
Hillary Clinton, heading the United States' presence at the G8 meeting being held in Canada, criticized Canada's government for not inviting all relevant parties for talks on the future of arctic energy exploration and environmental issues.
She said, ""Significant international discussions on Arctic issues should include those who have legitimate interests in the region. And I hope the Arctic will always showcase our ability to work together, not create new divisions."
Only Canada, the United States, Russia, Denmark, and Norway were invited to the talks, while others such as Sweden, and indigenous peoples were not. Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon held a press conference which was notably devoid of any other representatives from the meeting regarding arctic negotiations. He took a total of 5 questions, the majority of which revolved around Secretary of State Clinton's criticisms of the decision to leave out interested parties from discussions.
