Saudi Arabian security forces have arrested more than 100 suspected terrorists trained in Iraq who were said to be plotting to disrupt the kingdom's oil industry.

In a terse statement released last night, the Saudi authorities said a series of "pre-emptive" raids targetting more than 200 members of extremist cells had taken place throughout the country.

Plans had been drawn-up for attacks against oil industry targets and militants preparing to smuggle missiles into the country, officials said.
