Reid Gets Cloture On Financial Reform Bill

Harry Reid was able to wrangle up the 60 votes needed for cloture on the Financial regulation bill moving through the Senate today after some delays.

Two days ago the smoothly proceeding debate and amendment process came off the rails when a few Republicans and Democrats secretly held up the amendment process in order to stop any further changes to the bill before the cloture vote was scheduled.  Senate majority leader Harry Reid was incensed when he failed to get enough votes to stop debate yesterday, especially when some Democrats voted with Republicans against the motion.  Reid said at one point that an unnamed Senator broke his word to him, clearly angry, some speculating that he was directing his ire at Senator Scott Brown .

Today was a different story, as the latest motion for cloture passed 60 - 40, this time with Scott Brown voting in the affirmative, along with Senators Snowe, and Collins.
