Senate Votes For Cloture On Financial Reform
After a long and delayed wait for a final vote on financial reform in the Senate, it could come as early as this afternoon after Harry Reid brought the bill up for a cloture vote to end debate.
The Senate accepted ending debate on S.3217 Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010 and sister bill to H.R.4173, by a vote of 60 to 38, the absolute minimum needed to pass. Democratic Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska ended up voting for cloture after having been on the fence, and was joined by Republican Senators Olympia Snowe (Maine), Susan Collins (Maine), and Scott Brown of Massachusetts.
Now that debate is over, Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn) scheduled one final procedural vote for 2PM Eastern, and if passed will be followed immediately by a final vote on the bill.
