It's sure to be another incredibly slow week on the political policy front while lawmakers in general are still on vacation so the airwaves have been full of the nonsense you'd normally find filling in gaps with the absence of reliable and useful information.  Hello Glen Beck rally.

Setting that aside. we're rolling full steam ahead into the midterm elections, and while building Mosques seems to be a hot button topic, the real issue for Americans is jobs and the economy.  Ben Bernanke, head of the Federal Reserve, felt it important enough to announce that the Fed is ready to step in to "do all it can" to ensure the economic recovery.

Even though lawmakers are still off, the President is back to work, but not before doing an interview with Brian Williams of NBC News which aired this morning in which he talked about the slow recovery and what his administration can do to hurry things up.  The President listed off several ways to encourage job growth, however the reality is that the unwillingness of Congress to spend in the short term severely limits the President's ability to fill the gap left by private companies who are hoarding money instead of spending it.  President Obama will be meeting with his economic team today ahead of the planned release of new jobs numbers on Friday and is expected to comment afterwards about the slow rate of recovery.  Unfortunately for the President and reasonable people everywhere, it's very difficult to explain how much worse things would have been without the stimulus package.

Along with tough economic issues, the President will be hosting Palestinian and Israeli leaders this week in an attempt to jump start the Middle East peace process and will be addressing the nation Tuesday night from the Oval Office to discuss the end of combat operations in Iraq among other things.
