TS: Tories Won't Compromise On Census
The federal Conservatives are rejecting a compromise that would allow
Statistics Canada to continue using the compulsory long-form census
while eliminating the threat of jail time for those who refuse to fill
it out.
"We've been clear that we're opposed to the mandatory nature of this and forcing people by some criminal sanction (to complete the form), whether that's jail or whether it's a fine," Treasury Board President Stockwell Day told reporters today.
