This movie is based on the book by Valerie Plame about her and her husband's explosive lives when she was outed as an undercover CIA agent by disgraced conservative journalist and political operative Robert Novak. 

Plame's husband Joseph Wilson in his role as an ambassador wrote at the time that the reports of Saddam Hussein seeking nuclear material in Africa weren't true, damaging the Bush White House's efforts to sell a war in Iraq to the American people.  It was shortly after his report became public that then Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff Lewis "Scooter" Libby told Robert Novak that Valerie Plame was a CIA agent leading to the end of her career.  Libby was laer convicted of obstruction of justice, making false statements, and two counts of perjury.

The film stars Naomi Watts and Sean Penn as Valerie and Joesph respectively and was directed by Doug Liman.
